The Guild

The Guild Art Gallery, founded in Mumbai in late 1997 by Shalini H. Sawhney, has established a major international reputation for its commitment to showing significant artists whose work is innovative, ambitious, challenging, and intellectually driven.
Since its inception, the Gallery's mission has been to represent, support and nurture the work of emerging, cutting edge artists in their quest to create and discover new initiatives.
The gallery represents a strong roster of artists: Baiju Parthan, T.V. Santhosh, Riyas Komu, Navjot Altaf, Heeral Trivedi, Vidya Kamat, Iranna G.R., Pooja Iranna, Arunanshu Chowdhury, N.N. Rimzon, K.P. Reji, Prajkta Potnis, Shibu Natesan, Jehangir
Jani, Pradeep Mishra, Sathyanand Mohan, Lokesh Khodke, Ashutosh Bharadwaj, Om Soorya, Himanshu S. Other prominent artists whom the Gallery represents include Prof. Gulam Mohammed Sheikh, K. Laxma Goud, Prof. K.G. Subramanyan, Krishen
Khanna, Anupam Sud, Akbar Padamsee, and Gieve Patel. Since 1997, The Guild Art Gallery has mounted over forty-five solo exhibitions and nearly thirty group exhibitions in its spaces. The gallery has opened up its second space in Mumbai in addition to
its presence in New York.
In 2006, an additional space for The Guild Art Gallery was opened in New York's Chelsea art district, allowing for an expanded exhibition schedule. The Guild, NY has presented nine solo shows and eight group shows to date. As an up and coming gallery, The Guild, NY encourages contemporary fine art made by promising and creative individuals. Maintaining the foundation of the gallery by representing contemporary Indian artists, including the Diaspora, The Guild, NY is taking steps to widen the circle of representation and add to their visual roster artists from different countries and backgrounds.
The Guild Art Gallery, in both India and New York, seeks to continue presenting artists of high caliber and intellectual standing through various avenues: exhibitions, panel discussions, curated collaborations and art fairs. These undertakings highlight the continued efforts on part of the gallery to find, cultivate and encourage dialogue between Indian artists and the broader contemporary art world. The Guild seeks dynamic young artists; nurtures them over a period of time, making it possible for them to take risks and create ambitious, and often times, multi-layered projects. The focus is to form artistic careers, creating an environment that centers on a critical and historical
development of art.
